Collecting the baton of the great fusion bands like Weather Report, Herbie Hancock, Chick Korea’s Electric Band or Zawinul Syndicate, and influenced by the jazz of Irakere, Wayne Shorter, Miles Davis or Paco de Lucía, Patáx is a project that proposes to bring the fusion to a new place, where a communion between flamenco, funk and Afro-Cuban folklore is the magical cohesive ingredient.
A percussionist has rarely been seen in our country assuming the role of leader and composer of a jazz band. Jorge Pérez, with Spanish-American nationality, began his music studies in Madrid and expanded them at the prestigious Berklee College of Music in Boston. That’s where Patáx was born, which surprises us with a fast-paced proposal where latin jazz, funk, and flamenco go hand in hand with true knowledge of the cause. Not in vain, he presents in his project an exceptional band composed of the best of the new generation of international jazz musicians based in Spain.
Several discs already published, including a tribute to Michael Jackson, and the DVD “Live from Infinity”, which has put them on the lips of critics and audiences, with great success and recognition by all parties. Undoubtedly we are facing one of the best and most original bands of the genre worldwide.
